A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and recognizing1
the enduring impact of the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, in 1996, the City of Atlanta hosted the Centennial Olympic Games, marking the3
100th anniversary of the modern Olympic movement and placing At lanta and the State of4
Georgia firmly on the global stage as a center of commerce, cul ture, and international5
cooperation; and6
WHEREAS, the Atlanta Olympic Games catalyzed transformative inv estments in7
infrastructure, transportation, housing, public spaces, and economic development, reshaping8
Downtown Atlanta and creating a foundation for long-term urban revitalization; and9
WHEREAS, the momentum generated by the games underscored the importance of sustained10
stewardship, strategic planning, and coordinated investment to ensure that Downtown Atlanta11
remained vibrant, safe, and economically competitive in the decades that followed; and12
WHEREAS, in response to this need, the Atlanta Downtown Improve ment District was13
created to provide dedicated services and leadership focused on public safety, sanitation,14

beautification, infrastructure enhancement, and business support within the downtown core;15
and16
WHEREAS, the district has worked in partnership with property o wners, businesses,17
residents, and local government to preserve the legacy of the O lympic transformation by18
strengthening economic vitality, enhancing public spaces, and p romoting a welcoming19
environment for workers, students, residents, and visitors; and20
WHEREAS, over the past three decades, the combined legacy of the 1996 Olympic Games21
and the ongoing efforts of the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District has helped position22
Downtown Atlanta as a hub for major sporting events, convention s, higher education,23
tourism, and small business growth; and24
WHEREAS, the 30th anniversary of the Atlanta Olympic Games provides an opportunity to25
reflect on the vision, collaboration, and investment that reshaped the city and to recognize26
the continued role of the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District in carrying that vision27
forward for future generations.28
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29
commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Ga mes in honor of its30
historic and lasting impact on the City of Atlanta and the Stat e of Georgia as well as31
recognize the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District for its lea dership and ongoing32
commitment to sustaining and enhancing the vitality of Downtown Atlanta.33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed34
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the35
press.36
