26 LC 112 3729 House Resolution 1489 By: Representatives Tran of the 80th, Crawford of the 89th, Drenner of the 85th, Draper of the 90th, and Barnes of the 86th A RESOLUTION Commending the 5th Annual Decatur Lunar New Year Festival; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the Georgia House of Representatives takes great pride in acknowledging and2 honoring the many cultural celebrations that enrich the lives o f residents and foster3 community unity throughout this state; and4 WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is a centuries-old celebration obse rved by millions of5 people around the world to mark the beginning of the new year a ccording to the lunisolar6 calendar and to honor traditions of renewal, family, prosperity, and hope; and7 WHEREAS, the City of Decatur first hosted its Annual Lunar New Year Festival in 2022 to8 celebrate this vibrant cultural observance and share the rich traditions of the Lunar New Year9 with citizens across the metro Atlanta region; and10 WHEREAS, in 2026, the City of Decatur again welcomed thousands of participants to the11 5th Annual Decatur Lunar New Year Festival, featuring tradition al performances, artistic12 exhibitions, cultural foods, children's activities, and opportu nities for cross-cultural13 engagement; and14 H. R. 1489 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3729 WHEREAS, the 2026 Lunar New Year also ushered in the Year of the Fire Horse, a rare and15 significant Chinese zodiac combination that occurs only once ev ery 60 years, pairing the16 energetic symbolism of the Horse with the dynamic intensity of the Fire element—together17 representing strength, renewal, bold action, rapid movement, pa ssion, and forward18 momentum as central themes of the year; and19 WHEREAS, the Year of the Fire Horse holds deep cultural resonan ce across East and20 Southeast Asian traditions, reflecting values of independence, resilience, creativity, and21 opportunity that align with the spirit of communal celebration embraced at the Decatur Lunar22 New Year Festival; and23 WHEREAS, since its inception, the Decatur Lunar New Year Festival has grown in scope24 and participation, contributing to the cultural vitality of Decatur and serving as a bridge that25 brings diverse communities together in shared celebration and mutual understanding; and26 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper for the Georgia House of Representatives to recognize27 the significance of the Decatur Lunar New Year Festival and commend all those who have28 worked to make its 5th annual celebration a success.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body commend the 5th Annual Decatur Lunar New Year Festival for its31 celebration of cultural heritage, community engagement, and con tributions to fostering32 understanding among peoples and extend best wishes for continued success in future years.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the35 organizers of the Decatur Lunar New Year Festival.36 H.
