26 LC 129 1274 Senate Resolution 866 By: Senators Hickman of the 4th, Hodges of the 3rd, Gooch of the 51st, Setzler of the 37th and Strickland of the 42nd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Statesboro Police Department's Community Information1 Specialist, Ruth Atchely; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Ruth Atchely has diligently and conscientiously served with the Statesboro3 Police Department beginning in 2021 as a Front Counter Clerk, a nd since 2024, as the4 Community Information Specialist; and5 WHEREAS, the Community Information Specialist's duties include developing programs6 and activities that promote the agency and increase visibility of the department; speaking to7 groups, schools, and civic organizations about special programs and law enforcement; and8 responding to media requests and maintaining the department's social media networks; and9 WHEREAS, in 2025, Ruth designed, coordinated, and participated in more than 6510 community events, engaging individuals and organizations across t h e c o m m u n i t y a n d11 beyond; and12 WHEREAS, Ruth's clever, humorous, and witty social media presence has brought attention13 to the Statesboro Police Department's social media pages; and14 S. R. 866 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1274 WHEREAS, since January 1, 2026, Ruth's work has helped increase the Statesboro Police15 Department's following from 39,000 to 76,300 followers in just under a month and a half;16 and17 WHEREAS, furthermore, in just 28 days, the department's Faceboo k page received more18 than 29 million views and 39,000 content interactions from all over the world; and19 WHEREAS, through her social media presence, Ruth has highlighted the positive aspects of20 law enforcement and the Statesboro Police Department on the world stage; and21 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting a nd proper that this extraord inary Georgian is22 appropriately recognized.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 recognize and commend the Statesboro Police Department's Commun ity Information25 Specialist, Ruth Atchely.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Ruth Atchely.28 S.
