26 LC 39 5004 House Resolution 1521 By: Representative Jackson of the 128th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Mr. David Oscar Cummings and dedicating a road in his memory; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mr. David Oscar Cummings was a lifelong resident of Wa shington County,3 Georgia, and graduated from Washington County High School in 19 78, where he was the4 STAR Student of his graduating class; and5 WHEREAS, he worked in the product labs at Imerys for over three decades, where his6 professionalism, generosity, and conscientiousness set the standard for his colleagues; and7 WHEREAS, an avid cyclist, Mr. Cummings participated in Randonneuring bicycling events8 which consist of long distance cycling and he started each year with a century ride of 1009 miles on New Year's Day; and10 WHEREAS, Mr. Cummings life was tragically cut short on April 30 , 2018, when he was11 struck from behind by a motorist while cycling on the outskirts of Sandersville; and12 H. R. 1521 - 1 - 26 LC 39 5004 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation13 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he14 made this world a better place in which to live; and15 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished16 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL18 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 540 from De epstep Road to19 Linton Road South in Washington County is dedicated as the David Cummings Memorial20 Highway.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and22 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the David Cummings Memorial23 Highway.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized25 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the26 family of Mr. David Oscar Cummings and to the Department of Transportation.27 H.
