26 LC 39 5011 House Resolution 1581 By: Representatives Werkheiser of the 157th, DeLoach of the 167th, Hitchens of the 161st, and Burns of the 159th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Mr. Sidney R. Miles and dedicating a road in his memory; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mr. Sidney R. Miles has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for3 the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep pe rsonal commitment to the4 welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. Miles began working for the Georgia State Patrol i n 1969 as a radio6 operator at Post 36 Douglas while attending South Georgia College; and7 WHEREAS, a second generation trooper, Mr. Miles graduated from the 44th Georgia State8 Patrol Trooper School in 1974; and9 WHEREAS, Mr. Miles's career in law enforcement spanned 30 years and he retired with the10 rank of Colonel and as Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety; and11 WHEREAS, he exhibited extraordinary devotion to duty, outstandi ng loyalty, fine12 leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all his duties and was highly regarded by the13 H. R. 1581 - 1 - 26 LC 39 5011 citizens of his community and state and by local government off icials as a person of14 unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and15 WHEREAS, Mr. Miles led an exceptional career of public of service, always putting public16 safety and the citizens of this state first, and his inspiring commitment to the welfare of17 others stands as a shining example of the positive effect law enforcement professionals have18 on the lives and well-being of others; and19 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished20 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his memory.21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL22 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 23 from W.R. Colman Road to23 Brazells Creek in Tattnall County is dedicated as the Sidney R. Miles Memorial Highway.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and25 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Sidney R. Miles Memorial26 Highway.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the29 family of Mr. Sidney R.
