26 LC 112 3741 Senate Resolution 902 By: Senators Halpern of the 39th, Wicks of the 34th, Albers of the 56th, Hatchett of the 50th and Anavitarte of the 31st A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Goodwill of North Georgia upon its 100th anniversary; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Goodwill of North Georgia is a nonprofit organization that was founded in3 Atlanta, Georgia, in 1925 by local citizens committed to suppor ting job seekers and4 promoting community empowerment—this year, the organization is celebrating 100 years5 of service in the State of Georgia; and6 WHEREAS, Goodwill of North Georgia's mission is to "put people to work" by providing7 job training, placement services, and workforce development programs funded through the8 sale of donated goods, thereby creating pathways to economic stability and self-sufficiency;9 and10 WHEREAS, over the course of its century of service, Goodwill of North Georgia has made11 a profound impact on communities throughout the state by servin g more than 700,00012 Georgians and facilitating over 300,000 job placements through its career centers and13 employment programs; and14 S. R. 902 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3741 WHEREAS, Goodwill of North Georgia has expanded its reach to serve a 45-county region15 in North Georgia and currently operates more than 70 retail stores, over 40 donation centers,16 and 14 career centers dedicated to workforce development and economic opportunity; and17 WHEREAS, Goodwill of North Georgia has demonstrated leadership and innovation in18 workforce development, including the opening of its first career center in 1995, and has been19 recognized as the top-performing Goodwill organization nationally for job placements; and20 WHEREAS, the organization's work generates nearly $1 billion in annual economic impact21 in Georgia, underscoring the critical role it plays in strength ening the state's workforce,22 supporting employers, and uplifting individuals and families across diverse communities.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 recognize and commend Goodwill of North Georgia upon its 100th anniversary and extend25 their sincere appreciation for a century of service, leadership , and commitment to putting26 Georgians to work.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Goodwill of North29 Georgia.30 S.
