26 LC 112 3752 Senate Resolution 893 By: Senators Wicks of the 34th, Rhett of the 33rd and Harbison of the 15th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Judith L. Cotten; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Judith L. Cotten valiantly and courageously served as a2 guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United S tates Army for 21 years,3 retiring as a Non-Commissioned Officer in 2001; and4 WHEREAS, upon retiring from military service, she became a resident of Clayton County,5 Georgia, where she has continued a distinguished record of public service, civic leadership,6 and community engagement; and7 WHEREAS, she has built an extensive post-military career as a licensed realtor, broker, real8 estate instructor, and life and health insurance producer, including ownership and leadership9 of multiple real estate and insurance enterprises serving communities across Georgia; and10 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Cotten has demonstrated sustaine d civic leadership11 through service as Chairwoman of the Clayton County Land Bank B oard, membership on12 the Clayton County Veterans Advisory Board, and mentorship with in the Clayton County13 Veterans Treatment Court; and14 S. R. 893 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3752 WHEREAS, she is a lifetime member and leader within the National Association of Black15 Military Women Inc. as well as the founder and national preside nt of Omicron Nu Xi16 Military Sorority Inc. and its affiliated auxiliaries, organiza tions dedicated to service and17 global humanitarian outreach; and18 WHEREAS, her lifetime of service has been formally recognized through the Presidential19 Lifetime Achievement Award and an Honorary Doctorate in Humanit arianism, and she20 continues to serve her community through faith-based leadership and civic involvement; and21 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this veteran and community leader be22 appropriately honored for her enduring service to the State of Georgia and this nation.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 recognize and commend Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Judith L. Cotten for her distinguished military25 service, civic leadership, and continued dedication to public service and extend best wishes26 for continued success, health, and happiness.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Staff Sergeant29 (Ret.)
