26 LC 129 1321 House Resolution 1548 By: Representatives Scott of the 76th, Schofield of the 63rd, and Davis of the 87th A RESOLUTION Honoring and commending Dr. LaWanda Folami for her outstanding service, leadership, and1 dedication to the citizens of Clayton County and the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Dr. LaWanda Folami is a dedicated humanitarian, servan t leader, and social3 justice advocate whose life's work has been rooted in strengthening families and empowering4 communities throughout Forest Park and Clayton County, Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, for more than 30 years, Dr. Folami has remained a steadfast pillar of service,6 compassion, and leadership, impacting countless lives through advocacy, mentorship, and7 civic engagement; and8 WHEREAS, as Vice Chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission Aging Committee, Dr.9 Folami has championed funding, policy development, and vital re sources to enhance the10 quality of life for seniors throughout Clayton County, ensuring that aging residents are11 supported with dignity and respect; and12 WHEREAS, she has worked closely with the Clayton County Housing Authority as an13 affordable housing advocate, assisting elderly residents with w interization of their homes,14 H. R. 1548 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1321 access to transportation for medical appointments, and nutritional support through volunteer15 service with Meals on Wheels; and16 WHEREAS, through partnerships with senior centers, including th e Forest Park Senior17 Center, Dr. Folami has organized and supported community initiatives such as Thanksgiving18 outreach events providing turkeys and essential holiday items to seniors in need; and19 WHEREAS, her commitment to service extends beyond senior advoca cy to supporting20 homeless individuals, single parents, and youth as a nurturer, caregiver, and trusted21 community resource liaison, contributing to the launch and growth of educational, charitable,22 philanthropic, and cultural initiatives that uplift underserved populations; and23 WHEREAS, an unwavering activist for justice and civic engagement, Dr. Folami has served24 as an advisor to the Black Women's Roundtable "Get Out the Vote " initiative and has25 provided guidance to former and current elected officials, demonstrating her commitment to26 civic participation and democratic engagement; and27 WHEREAS, her advocacy spans civil rights, equal opportunity, entrepreneurship, arts and28 culture, education, politics, law, and athletics-reflecting her belief that strong communities29 require involvement across every sector; and30 WHEREAS, known for her compassion and inclusivity, Dr. Folami is committed to serving31 individuals of every race, class, and ethnic background, guided by her powerful principle,32 "you can't beat marching feets," a testament to her belief in persistence, unity, and collective33 action; and34 H. R. 1548 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1321 WHEREAS, Dr. LaWanda Folami's legacy is defined not only by her public35 accomplishments but by the countless personal lives she has touched through encouragement,36 advocacy, and unwavering service, continuing to serve as a vita l economic, cultural, and37 social force within the City of Forest Park, Clayton County, and the State of Georgia.38 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that39 the members of this body honor and commend Dr. LaWanda Folami f or her exemplary40 leadership, tireless advocacy, and decades of faithful service to the citizens of Clayton41 County and the State of Georgia.42 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized43 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.44 LaWanda Folami.45 H.
