26 LC 129 1318 House Resolution 1558 By: Representative Moore of the 91st A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Bishop Leroy Barnes; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Bishop Leroy Barnes; and3 WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Bishop Barnes accepte d his calling into the4 ministry in 1979; and 5 WHEREAS, in 1989, he became Pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church i n Atlanta, Georgia,6 where he would faithfully serve as Senior Pastor for 45 years; and7 WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Henrietta, and was blessed with8 four remarkable children, along with many nieces, nephews, cous ins, grandchildren, and9 great grandchildren; and10 WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern11 for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his12 family and friends were admired by others; and13 H. R. 1558 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1318 WHEREAS, alongside his pastoral work, Bishop Barnes built a distinguished career in the14 automotive manufacturing industry, retiring from Ford Motor Com pany after 30 years of15 exemplary service; and16 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation17 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he18 made this world a better place in which to live; and19 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Bishop Barnes will long be remembered20 for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great21 fortune of knowing him.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that23 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Bishop Leroy Barnes and24 express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized26 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the27 family of Bishop Leroy Barnes.28 H.
