26 LC 129 1338 House Resolution 1554 By: Representatives Herring of the 145th, Jones of the 143rd, and Paris of the 142nd A RESOLUTION Commending Dr. Sylvia Williams McGee for her lifelong dedicatio n to education,1 community development, leadership cultivation, and civic engage ment in Macon-Bibb2 County; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Dr. Sylvia Williams McGee, a proud native of Macon, Ge orgia, is a4 distinguished retired educator and community engagement leader whose work has5 strengthened schools, families, and nonprofit partnerships across the region; and6 WHEREAS, Dr. McGee dedicated 35 years of service to the Bibb County School District,7 where she served in multiple leadership roles including School Social Worker, Director of8 Student Support Services, Deputy S uperintendent, and Interim Su perintendent, shaping9 student success and strengthening district administration; and10 WHEREAS, in recognition of her professional excellence and impact, Dr. McGee received11 numerous honors including Georgia School Social Worker of the Y ear (1998), the Robert12 Hatcher Leadership Award (1996), and the Outstanding Leadership Award from Jack and13 Jill of America, Inc. (2000), and the Teacher of Excellence Awa rd at the Golden Eagles14 Ceremony has been named in her honor, highlighting her lasting legacy in education; and15 H. R. 1554 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1338 WHEREAS, after retirement fro m public education in 2011, Dr. Mc Gee continued her16 service to children and families through leadership roles such as Project Manager with17 READ UNITED at United Way of Central Georgia (2016-2020), advan cing early literacy18 and supporting volunteer tutoring for students in Kindergarten through third grade; and19 WHEREAS, Dr. McGee's community leadership extends to key civic and nonprofit boards,20 including service as Secretary of the Macon-Bibb County Land Bank Authority, Immediate21 Past President of The Macon (GA) Chapter of The Links, Incorpor ated, Chair of the Ruth22 Hartley Mosley Memorial Women's Center, President of the Advisory Board of Directors for23 Leadership Macon, and Chair of the Grants Committee for the Com munity Foundation of24 Central Georgia, reflecting her broad influence across sectors; and25 WHEREAS, Dr. McGee's contributions have been recognized beyond education and civic26 boards, including receiving the Ruth Hartley Mosley Community I mpact Award for her27 tireless work in Central Georgia, further honoring her commitme nt to community28 empowerment and collective impact.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body commend Dr. Sylvia Williams McGee for her extraordinary31 leadership, her decades of service in education and community d evelopment, and her32 enduring commitment to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Macon-Bibb County.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr.35 Sylvia Williams McGee.36 H.
