26 LC 39 5045 House Resolution 1639 By: Representatives Neal of the 79th, Scott of the 76th, Douglas of the 78th, Bell of the 75th, and Flournoy of the 74th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Mr. Darryl W. Jordan and dedicating an intersection in his honor; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mr. Darryl W. Jordan has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for3 the vital role that he played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare4 of the citizens of Clayton County, Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan graduated from Southwest High School in Macon, Georgia, where6 he served as vice president of his graduating class and drum major for the school's marching7 band; and8 WHEREAS, he attended Grambling State University, where he was a member of the famous9 Grambling State "Tiger" band that performed around the country and transferred to Mercer10 University, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees; and11 WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan served as an educator in Henry County, dedi cating 31 years to12 teaching and inspiring the next generation of leaders; and 13 H. R. 1639 - 1 - 26 LC 39 5045 WHEREAS, in 2000, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and served as14 vice chairperson of the House Committee on Regulated Industries and as a member of the15 House Committees on Banks and Banking and Transportation; and16 WHEREAS, his dedicated public service and vision has been recog nized with numerous17 awards, including the Martin Luther King, Jr., Freedom Award fr om the Henry County18 Community; the Teacher Gold Cup, Teacher of the Year Award, and Community Leadership19 Award from Henry County Middle School; the Community Support Aw ard from the20 Riverdale Parent Teacher Association; and the Distinguished Leadership in public service21 award from the Mercer University African American alumni; and22 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished23 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL25 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 3CO (Tara Blvd) and Upper26 Riverdale Road in Clayton County is dedicated as the Darryl Jordan Intersection.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and28 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Darryl Jordan Intersection.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Mr.31 Darryl W.
