26 LC 112 3835 House Resolution 1624 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, McQueen of the 61st, Holly of the 116th, Berry of the 56th, Barnes of the 86th, and others A RESOLUTION Commending the Spelman Social Justice Program Health Advocacy Initiative; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Spelman Social Justice Program Health Advocacy Initiative is a student-led3 initiative dedicated to improving healthcare access for all Georgians, with a particular focus4 on addressing healthcare coverage gaps and advancing health equ ity across the State of5 Georgia; and6 WHEREAS, the Spelman Health Advocacy Initiative was founded in 2025 by Parker7 Chambers, Jalease Burke, and Sheridan Lyles to empower students to engage directly in8 health policy education, advocacy, and civic leadership; and9 WHEREAS, the initiative has met and worked with members of the Georgia General10 Assembly, including senators and representatives, to discuss he althcare access, Medicaid11 policy, and the broader state of healthcare within Georgia; and12 WHEREAS, the initiative brings together students across disciplines, including sociology,13 economics, biology, and public health, to promote interdisciplinary advocacy and emphasize14 diverse perspectives in shaping equitable health policy solutions; and15 H. R. 1624 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3835 WHEREAS, the Spelman Social Justice Program Health Advocacy Initiative has educated16 students on healthcare coverage options, the legislative process, and the importance of civic17 engagement while intentionally uplifting and centering community voices in conversations18 about healthcare reform.19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that20 the members of this body commend the Spelman Social Justice Program Health Advocacy21 Initiative for its many outstanding contributions on behalf of the citizens of this state as well22 as extended best wishes for continued success.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the25 public and the press.26 H.
