A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life of Lieutenant Colonel Albert "Butch" S. Welch, Jr., and dedicating a bridge1
in his memory; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic m en and women who put3
their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in ha rm's way to protect the4
freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and5
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Albert "Butch" S. Welch, Jr., served as a guardian of this6
nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army and honorably served this nation7
for two tours of duty in Afghanistan as a combat engineer; and8
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Welch diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his9
time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his communit y and state as evidenced10
dramatically by his superlative service with the Georgia Department of Transportation, where11
he served as an engineer for nearly 30 years; and12
WHEREAS, he worked on numerous road projects across this state, including improvements13
along North Druid Hills that significantly enhanced access to h ospitals on the east side of14
Interstate 85; and15

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished16
Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in his memory.17
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL18
ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on State Route 42 over State Route 403 (I-85)19
in DeKalb County is dedicated as the Lt. Col. Albert "Butch" S. Welch Jr. Memorial Bridge.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and21
directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Lt. Col. Albert "Butch" S.22
Welch Jr. Memorial Bridge.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the25
family of Lieutenant Colonel Albert "Butch" S. Welch, Jr., and to the Department of26
Transportation.27
