26 LC 112 3749 Senate Resolution 917 By: Senators Ginn of the 47th, Walker III of the 20th, Anavitarte of the 31st, Jackson of the 41st, Cowsert of the 46th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the Rotary Club of Madison County and the completion of its 1,000th handicap1 access ramp; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Madison County, chartered in June 1990, has demonstrated3 an unwavering commitment to the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" through its4 long-standing dedication to improving the lives of residents throughout Madison County and5 the surrounding region; and6 WHEREAS, the club launched what would become its signature service initiative with the7 construction of its first handicap access ramp on October 21, 1995, the culmination of efforts8 by Charter Member Roy C. Gandy to push the club to support the creation of a new Senior9 Citizen Center; and10 WHEREAS, since that first project, the club's Handicap Ramp Program has grown into one11 of the most impactful and recognizable service efforts in Northeast Georgia, providing safe,12 free, and urgently needed accessibility ramps to individuals wi th mobility challenges,13 including elderly residents, veterans, and community members fa cing health or financial14 hardships; and15 S. R. 917 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3749 WHEREAS, the construction of these ramps is carried out entirely by volunteers from the16 Rotary Club of Madison County, often working in partnership wit h local churches, civic17 organizations, and community supporters who share a commitment to service and18 compassion; and19 WHEREAS, the club has now completed its 1,000th handicap access ramp, marking an20 extraordinary milestone that reflects decades of dedication, thousands of volunteer hours, and21 a deep-rooted belief in serving neighbors with dignity, respect, and kindness; and22 WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Madison County's work not only provides essential physical23 access to homes but also restores independence, improves quality of life, and offers hope to24 individuals and families across the county; and25 WHEREAS, this milestone achievement exemplifies the spirit of c ivic engagement that26 strengthens communities across Georgia and serves as an inspiri ng model for service27 organizations statewide.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 hereby recognize and commend the Rotary Club of Madison County for its completion of30 1,000 handicap access ramps and for its continued service to the citizens of this great state.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Rotary Club33 of Madison County.34 S.
