A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Metropolitan Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union upon 141 years of service to the1
Baptist churches and community; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, the seeds which were sown by the loving and humble eff orts of the devoted3
original worshipers of the Metropolitan Atlanta Baptist Ministe rs Union have blossomed,4
establishing a rich tradition and history; and5
WHEREAS, organized 141 years ago, the Metropolitan Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union has6
grown under the divine direction of numerous pastors over the years, allowing the Word of7
God to spread throughout the community; and8
WHEREAS, in the City of Atlanta, some of those leaders helped t o organize a meeting of9
Baptist preachers known today as the Metropolitan Atlanta Bapti st Ministers Union Inc.;10
regretfully, records that explicitly convey some of the history of the union were destroyed11
in the Great Fire of 1917; and12
WHEREAS, some of the leaders who served in the Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union were13
Rev. Frank Quarles, Friendship Baptist Church; Rev. W.M. Tillman, Wheat Street Baptist14
Church; Rev. Dr. E.J. Fisher, Mount Olive Baptist; Rev. J.A. Ho pkins, business man on15

Auburn Avenue; Rev. Peter James Bryant, Wheat Street; Rev. D.D. Crawford, who was16
inspired to build the Baptist Headquarters; Dr. E.R. Carter, Friendship; and others—among17
the men who have served as president of the union are the rever ends Frank Paschal, A.D.18
Williams, E.P. Johnson, J.T. Dorsey, M.L. King Sr., B.J. Johnso n Sr., D.A. Dixon, L.A.19
Pinkston, W.W. Weatherspool, H.M. Smith, M.L. Raglan, C.M. Wagner, H.W. Creecy, Rev.20
T.W. Hobbs, Frank Norwood, Moses Lee, H.J. Taylor, E.J. Jester, H.K. Benton, Anthony21
Motley, Paul Harvey, E.L. Jones, R.B. Sutton, J. Sherman Pelt, Casey Holmes, J. Edward22
Wilkins, R.L. Hill, James H. Pullin, A. Horton, Johnny Johnson, Stanley Smith, R.L. White,23
and Craig White; and24
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union continues to progress under25
the leadership of its new president, the Rev. Jarius Dorsey; and26
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this enduring example of God's message27
of peace and love be recognized and congratulated for its innumerable good works rendered28
on behalf of persons in need.29
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30
the members of this body recognize the rich history of the Metr opolitan Atlanta Baptist31
Ministers Union, commend its 141 years of dedicated service to the Lord and community,32
and extend their warmest best wishes for its continued growth and success.33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the35
Metropolitan Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union.36
