26 LC 112 3800 House Resolution 1662 By: Representatives Momtahan of the 17th, Gaines of the 120th, Smith of the 18th, Jones of the 25th, Burchett of the 176th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the leadership of President Donald J. Trump; commen ding the courage and1 professionalism of the United States Armed Forces; acknowledgin g the killing and2 elimination of the authoritarian dictator Ayatollah Ali Khameini; expressing solidarity with3 the Iranian people in their pursuit of freedom and self-determination; and for other purposes.4 WHEREAS, the United States Armed Forces continue to demonstrate extraordinary courage,5 professionalism, and sacrifice in defense of the United States, its allies, and the principles of6 liberty and security around the world; and7 WHEREAS, members of the United States military regularly undert ake complex and8 dangerous missions to counter regimes and organizations that threaten global peace, sponsor9 terrorism, and destabilize regions critical to international security; and10 WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump, as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the11 United States, demonstrated decisive leadership in confronting the Iranian regime and12 authorizing military action to protect American interests, defend allied nations, and promote13 stability in the Middle East; and14 H. R. 1662 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3800 WHEREAS, on February 28, 2026, during a coordinated United Stat es and allied military15 operation targeting senior leadership and military infrastructu re of the Iranian regime, a16 precision strike destroyed the fortified compound of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme17 Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, resulting in his death and the elimination of several18 senior regime officials; and19 WHEREAS, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled Iran as Supreme Lead er since 1989,20 presided over a regime responsible for widespread human rights abuses, including the21 imprisonment, torture, and execution of political dissidents, s tudents, and protesters who22 sought basic freedoms and democratic reforms; and23 WHEREAS, under his leadership, Iranian security forces, includi ng the Islamic24 Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other regime-controlled en tities, violently25 suppressed peaceful demonstrations and movements advocating for civil liberties, resulting26 in the deaths, imprisonment, and persecution of countless men, women, and young people27 across Iran; and28 WHEREAS, the end of the rule of such a repressive figure represents a moment of historic29 significance and offers renewed hope that the Iranian people ma y one day determine their30 own future free from authoritarian rule; and31 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia is home to thousands of active du ty service members,32 veterans, and military families who understand firsthand the sacrifices required to preserve33 freedom and who proudly serve to defend the liberties that Americans cherish; and34 WHEREAS, the Iranian people are distinct from the ruling regime and represent one of the35 most educated populations in the Middle East, producing generations of engineers, scientists,36 H. R. 1662 - 2 - 26 LC 112 3800 doctors, mathematicians, and entrepreneurs who have contributed greatly to global37 innovation and economic development; and38 WHEREAS, prior to the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Iran demonstr ated significant39 modernization and development, expanding universities, infrastr ucture, and economic40 opportunity for its citizens; and41 WHEREAS, despite decades of political repression, many Iranian citizens have continued42 to express their desire for greater freedom, opportunity, and representative government; and43 WHEREAS, the principles of liberty, self-determination, and rep resentative government44 remain central to the founding ideals of the United States and continue to inspire people45 around the world.46 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that47 the members of this body recognize the leadership of President Donald J. Trump in48 confronting threats posed by the Iranian regime and in authorizing decisive action to protect49 American interests and promote stability in the Middle East.50 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend th e bravery and51 professionalism of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and express52 profound gratitude for their continued service and sacrifice in defense of freedom and53 security.54 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body acknowledg e the suffering55 endured by the Iranian people under decades of authoritarian rule and express hope that the56 H. R. 1662 - 3 - 26 LC 112 3800 end of such tyranny will open the door for greater freedom, hum an rights, and57 self-determination.58 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body express their support for the59 people of Iran in their aspiration to live in freedom and to determine their own future under60 a government that respects human rights, individual liberty, and the rule of law.61 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized62 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the63 public and the press.64 H.
