HR1660: HR1660 Knight, Tasso; honoring the life and memory; condolences

26 LC 112 3845 House Resolution 1660 By: Representatives Evans of the 57th, McClain of the 109th, Jones of the 60th, Greene of the 154th, Hugley of the 141st, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Tasso Knight; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Tasso Knight on October 14, 2025; and3 WHEREAS, Tasso Knight was born on June 20, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia, a beloved son of4 Charlie and Fran Knight as well as a cherished sibling of Stormie, Merrie, and Jeff; and5 WHEREAS, his exemplary legacy of service to this state began wi th his tenure as a6 technician with Southern Bell, where he installed thousands of telephone lines across metro7 Atlanta; and8 WHEREAS, while at Southern Bell, he became a member and job ste ward of the9 Communications Workers of America (CWA), Local 3204, and made his first of many trips10 to the state capitol to lobby on behalf of working families; and11 WHEREAS, in recognition of his immense skills, talent, and dedication to lobbying efforts12 as a job steward, Tasso Knight was named the political director for CWA District 3 in13 Atlanta, becoming the de facto leader of the labor lobby at the state capitol; and14 H. R. 1660 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3845 WHEREAS, he was hired thereafter as the political director of the Georgia AFL-CIO, rising15 under the leadership of President Richard Ray, and in this capacity, he worked tirelessly to16 give a voice to and protect the rights of union members and workers across the state; and17 WHEREAS, he additionally traveled throughout Georgia to assist in Continuing Education18 seminars and organize support for labor issues, mentored many f uture labor lobbyists19 including David Pilgrim and Tony Tilley, and many future electe d officials, government20 staffers, and political activists as he was a constant promoter and supporter of young people21 involved in the political process; and22 WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Angelia, and was blessed with23 a wonderful son, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Jessica; and three won derful grandchildren,24 Chase, Logan, and Ava, all of whom loved their visits to the state capitol with him; and25 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Tasso Knight will long be remembered for26 his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great27 fortune of knowing him.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Tasso Knight and express30 their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the33 family of Tasso Knight.34 H.
