A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Reverend Dr. Sidney Holston; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Reverend Dr. Sidney Holston; and3
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Sidney Holston was ordained as a minster in 1978, and was4
installed pastor of Pine Level Baptist Church in Junction City, Georgia, in 1984 after the5
passing of his father the late Reverend Oliver J. Holson; and6
WHEREAS, before he was ordained, Reverend Dr. Holston was a public school teacher in7
Haralson and Harris Counties and was a dedicated business owner; and 8
WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Isabelle, and was blessed with9
three remarkable children; and10
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Holston gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals,11
and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he12
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and13

WHEREAS, a dedicated member of his community, Reverend Dr. Hols ton served on the14
Atlanta Regional Commission of Governmental Services, the Counc il of Advisory15
Committees of DeKalb County, the City of Decatur Planning Board , the DeKalb County16
Board of Housing and Adjustment Appeal Board, the South Decatur Community Council,17
and as the President of Dearborn Park Action League; and 18
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation19
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he20
made this world a better place in which to live; and21
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man who demonstrated his commitment to22
witnessing Christ through word and deed, Reverend Dr. Holston will long be remembered23
for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great24
fortune of knowing him.25
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f Reverend Dr. Sidney27
Holston and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30
family of Reverend Dr. Sidney Holston.31
