26 LC 129 1373 House Resolution 1659 By: Representative Herring of the 145th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Reverend Moses Lee Herring; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Reverend Moses Lee Herring; and3 WHEREAS, Reverend Moses Lee Herring was born on July 18, 1940, in Desoto, Georgia,4 to the late Bryant Herring and Ruth Butler Herring; and5 WHEREAS, he received his education in the Bibb County School Sy stem and graduated6 from Ballard Hudson Senior High School in 1961, where he distinguished himself as a star7 quarterback, leading his team to an undefeated championship sea son– a testament to his8 leadership, discipline, and competitive spirit; and 9 WHEREAS, his athletic gifts extended beyond the football field, as he went on to play in the10 Negro Leagues for the Raleigh Tigers, leaving his mark during a significant era in sports11 history; and 12 WHEREAS, following high school, Moses continued his educational journey at Savannah13 State College and later answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army; and14 H. R. 1659 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1373 WHEREAS, a hardworking and enterprising man, he worked at Ford Motor Company,15 owned and operated a family gas station, taught Autobody and Fender at Macon Tech, was16 the Assistant Pastor to Rev. Alvin Hudson at Beulahland Baptist Church, and retired from17 Warner Robins Air Force Base; and18 WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Florence, and was blessed with19 four remarkable children, William, Falan, Torrence, and Farrah; and two wonderful20 grandchildren, Reagan and Asher; and21 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man who demonstrated his commitment to22 witnessing Christ through word and deed, Reverend Herring will long be remembered for his23 love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great24 fortune of knowing him.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f Reverend Moses Lee27 Herring and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30 family of Reverend Moses Lee Herring.31 H.
