26 LC 112 3885 Senate Resolution 945 By: Senators Jackson of the 41st, Davenport of the 17th, Wicks of the 34th and Anderson of the 43rd A RESOLUTION Recognizing March 16, 2026, as the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Day on the Hill; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. was organized on Novembe r 12, 1922, in3 Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy4 Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn J ohnson, Hattie Mae5 Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure; and6 WHEREAS, the group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30,7 1929, when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University, becoming the8 only sorority in the National Pan-Hellenic Council to not have been founded at Howard9 University; and10 WHEREAS, since its inception, the dedicated women of Sigma Gamm a Rho have earned11 and maintained an exemplary reputation throughout the State of Georgia for leading positive12 change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service; and13 S. R. 945 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3885 WHEREAS, this distinguished organization upholds its mission st atement of "Greater14 Service, Greater Progress" by providing positive and proactive community outreach that15 promotes the greater good in education, service, and leadership development; and16 WHEREAS, across its more than 500 international chapters, Sigma Gamma Rho has17 welcomed more than 100,000 collegiate and professional women from every profession; and18 WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to de velop their unique19 talents through leadership training and involvement in sorority activities that create personal20 and professional bonds which last a lifetime; and21 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this exceptional sorority be appropriately22 honored during this special time for its enduring commitment to the highest ideals of23 sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, integrity, excellence, and communication.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 recognize March 16, 2026, as the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Day on the Hill.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Sigma Gamma28 Rho Sorority Inc.29 S.
