26 LC 39 4934 House Resolution 1663 By: Representatives Burnough of the 77th, Bell of the 75th, Flournoy of the 74th, and Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Dr. Anthony W. Smith and dedicating a road in his h onor; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for3 the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep pe rsonal commitment to the4 welfare of the citizens of Georgia as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with5 Clayton County Public Schools; and6 WHEREAS, as the Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools, Dr. Smith leads one7 of the nation's top 100 largest school districts and the sixth largest school system in the State8 of Georgia; and9 WHEREAS, Dr. Smith is highly regarded as a dedicated leader wit h a transformative and10 innovative approach to education, designed to improve the educa tional experience and11 outcomes of all students; and12 WHEREAS, Dr. Smith was instrumental in the reestablishment of the Clayton County Public13 Schools Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars used t o support students by14 H. R. 1663 - 1 - 26 LC 39 4934 providing thousands of scholarships to graduating seniors and s ponsoring numerous15 employee initiatives; and16 WHEREAS, Dr. Smith further supports his community through civic and social activities17 including being a member of the Masonic Order at Prince Hall an d New Hope Methodist18 Church as well as participating in the Stockbridge Jonesboro Al umni Chapter of Kappa19 Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; and20 WHEREAS, his work has been recognized with the 2015 Outstanding Servant in Educational21 Leadership Award from the Association of Christian Ministers of Clayton County, a Lifetime22 Achievement Award from the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce in addition to being23 named the 2025-2026 Superintendent to Watch by the National Sch ool Public Relations24 Association; and25 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished26 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a road in his honor.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL28 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the portion of State Route 314 from No rman Drive to29 Fayetteville Road in Clayton County is dedicated as the Dr. Anthony Smith Highway.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and31 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Dr. Anthony Smith Highway.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized33 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to34 Dr. Anthony W.
