26 LC 39 5058 House Resolution 1672 By: Representatives Gilliard of the 162nd and Stephens of the 164th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Ms. Huxsie Scott and dedicating a bridge in her honor; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Ms. Huxsie Scott is regarded as one of the greatest jazz and blues artists in the2 history of Coastal Savannah; and3 WHEREAS, a native of Savannah, Ms. Scott began her career as a jazz vocalist in 1973, with4 a powerful voice that will send chills down your spine; and5 WHEREAS, she has performed as the opening act for such jazz icons as Lionel Hampton and6 McCoy Tyner; and7 WHEREAS, Ms. Scott was the original jazz vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra and is8 a featured performer in the Jukebox Journey musical at the Savannah Theater; and9 WHEREAS, her vocal talents extend to gospel and inspirational music, with three of her own10 gospel recordings and as a staff member in the music ministry o f Overcoming By Faith11 Ministries; and12 H. R. 1672 - 1 - 26 LC 39 5058 WHEREAS, Ms. Scott has been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into13 the Savannah Tribune Gospel Hall of Fame, a bronze medal in the 2004 American Traditions14 competition, and Best Female Contemporary Gospel Artist by the listeners of WSOK/Clear15 Channel radio; and16 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished17 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in her honor.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL19 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on State Route 204 over the CSX railroad20 (Bridge ID # 0510075) in Chatham County is dedicated as the Huxsie Scott Bridge.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and22 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Huxsie Scott Bridge.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to25 Ms. Huxsie Scott and to the Department of Transportation.26 H.
