26 LC 112 3892 Senate Resolution 953 By: Senators Anderson of the 43rd, Lucas of the 26th, Jones II of the 22nd, Sims of the 12th, Howard of the 35th and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the Black Legislative Leaders Network HBCU Caucus Legislative Summit; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Black Legislative Leaders Network is a national co alition of Black state3 legislative leaders and policy partners committed to advancing policies that strengthen4 communities through education, economic opportunity, and civic leadership; and5 WHEREAS, the Black Legislative Leaders Network works to connect state legislators,6 higher education institutions, philanthropic leaders, and the private sector in order to develop7 innovative public policies that expand opportunity and strengthen state economies; and8 WHEREAS, recognizing the historic importance of Historically Bl ack Colleges and9 Universities, the organization established the BLLN HBCU Caucus initiative to strengthen10 the partnership between state legislatures and HBCU institutions across the United States and11 to support policies that ensure their continued growth and success; and12 WHEREAS, HBCUs have played a transformative role in American hi story by educating13 generations of leaders in public service, business, science, ed ucation, and civic life while14 serving as engines of economic mobility and innovation; and15 S. R. 953 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3892 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia is home to some of the nation's m ost respected HBCUs,16 including Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta Uni versity, Morehouse17 School of Medicine, Albany State University, Savannah State University, Fort Valley State18 University, and Paine College, institutions that collectively contribute billions of dollars in19 economic impact and prepare thousands of students each year for leadership roles across the20 nation; and21 WHEREAS, the Black Legislative Leaders Network HBCU Caucus Legislative Summit will22 convene state legislators from across the United States, HBCU p residents and leadership,23 corporate partners, policy organizations, and philanthropic leaders in Atlanta, Georgia, from24 March 26 through March 28, 2026; and25 WHEREAS, the summit will focus on strengthening legislative sup port for HBCUs,26 advancing workforce development partnerships, promoting innovat ion and research27 collaboration, and elevating the economic impact of HBCUs withi n their states and28 communities; and29 WHEREAS, hosting this national gathering in Atlanta highlights Georgia's historic30 leadership in Black higher education and its continued role as a national center for31 scholarship, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body33 commend the Black Legislative Leaders Network for its leadershi p and recognize the34 importance of its HBCU Caucus Legislative Summit being held in Atlanta, Georgia, on35 March 26–28, 2026.36 S. R. 953 - 2 - 26 LC 112 3892 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body extend their appreciation to37 the summit organizers, participating legislators, university leaders, and partners whose work38 strengthens Historically Black Colleges and Universities and expands opportunities for future39 generations of students and leaders.40 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed41 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the42 press.43 S.
