26 LC 39 5068 House Resolution 1705 By: Representatives Bazemore of the 69th, McQueen of the 61st, Jackson of the 68th, Glaize of the 67th, and Schofield of the 63rd A RESOLUTION Recognizing State Representative Roger Bruce and dedicating an intersection in his honor;1 and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, State Representative Roger Bruce has long been recognized by the citizens of3 this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment4 to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, Representative Bruce graduated from Morehouse College, where he served as6 president of the political science club and reinstituted the Fr ederick Douglass Tutorial7 Institute to help high school students prepare for college; and8 WHEREAS, in 2002, he was elected to serve the citizens of House District 61 in the Georgia9 House of Representatives and served as the first African American chairman of the Douglas10 County delegation for eight years; and 11 WHEREAS, during his tenure in the House of Representatives, he focused on issues related12 to children with special needs, aging, education, working families, economic development,13 voting rights, and criminal justice; and 14 H. R. 1705 - 1 - 26 LC 39 5068 WHEREAS, he served on the Insurance, Education, Motor Vehicles, M A R T O C ,15 Intergovernmental Coordination, Judiciary, Appropriations, Smal l Business and Job16 Development, Human Relations and Aging, and Game, Fish and Parks Committees; and 17 WHEREAS, Representative Bruce's leadership and guidance have be en instrumental to18 numerous organizations, including the Interdenominational Theol ogical Center, Fulton19 Atlanta Community Action Authority, Inc., and All Children Are Special; and20 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished21 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL23 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 6 (Camp Creek Parkway)24 and State Route 70 (Fulton County Industrial Boulevard SW) in Fulton County is dedicated25 as the State Representative Roger Bruce Intersection.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and27 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the State Representative Roger28 Bruce Intersection.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to State31 Representative Roger Bruce and to the Department of Transportation.32 H.
