26 LC 129 1398 House Resolution 1730 By: Representatives Lim of the 98th, Lupton of the 83rd, and Clark of the 108th A RESOLUTION Recognizing Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s, Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter's Mujeres1 Day at the Capitol on March 18, 2026; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., was establish ed on December 1,3 1975, at Kean University with the principles of unity, love, and respect; and4 WHEREAS, Lambda Theta Alpha was founded by seventeen visionary trailblazers who5 endeavored to create a supportive, empowering environment in which young women could6 thrive, and whose steadfast determination laid the groundwork f or an organization that7 continues to celebrate Latino culture while promoting academic achievement, leadership, and8 service; and9 WHEREAS, a sisterhood that pushed boundaries and paved the way as the first Latina10 sorority in the nation, Lambda Theta Alpha has become one of th e first and largest Latina11 sororities in the United States, celebrating 50 years of excell ence scholarly excellence,12 empowerment of the universal woman, political and cultural awar eness and community13 activism; and 14 H. R. 1730 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1398 WHEREAS, members of Lambda Theta Alpha in Georgia remain deeply committed to civic15 engagement, leadership, and advocacy, hosting "Mujeres Day at the Capitol," organized by16 the Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter since 2019 to train women of al l backgrounds in the17 practice of advocacy and to deepen their understanding of the legislative process; and18 WHEREAS, Mujeres Day at the Capitol has also received national recognition, earning19 Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter the distinguished honor of the 2025 Lambda Theta Alpha20 Political Chapter of the Year, presented by the sorority's national organization in recognition21 of the chapter's outstanding commitment to civic engagement; and22 WHEREAS, throughout nearly five decades, Lambda Theta Alpha has gained over 10,00023 members, faithfully upheld its praiseworthy mission to foster a strong sense of sisterhood,24 advance educational excellence, and create opportunities for pe rsonal and professional25 growth; and26 WHEREAS, Lambda Theta Alpha proudly includes eight chapters in Georgia Area One27 Undergraduate Chapters including Emory University- Gamma Nu Chapter, Georgia Institute28 of Technology- Gamma Omega Chapter, The University of Georgia- Delta Alpha Chapter,29 Georgia State University- Delta Beta Chapter, Kennesaw State University - Epsilon Alpha30 Chapter, University of West Georgia- Zeta Beta Chapter, Ogletho rpe University-Eta Xi31 Chapter, and the Alpha Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Atlanta, Georgia; and32 WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting and proper that the General A ssembly recognize and33 acknowledge Lambda Theta Alpha and affirm its importance to its members and all who34 have benefited from its empowerment, mentorship, and support.35 H. R. 1730 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1398 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that36 the members of this body recognize Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority, Inc.'s, Alpha Sigma37 Alumnae Chapter's Mujeres Day at the Capitol on March 18, 2026.38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized39 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to40 Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority, Inc.41 H.
