26 LC 112 3899 Senate Resolution 960 By: Senators Halpern of the 39th, Goodman of the 8th, Walker III of the 20th, Jones II of the 22nd, Parent of the 44th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the White Rose Society and honoring Linda Weinkle S elig; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, the White Rose Society was founded after the October 7 attacks with the3 intention of informing and educating the public about the ethical foundations of civil liberty4 as well as recognizing the lives and sacrifices of the members of the original White Rose5 resistance movement; and6 WHEREAS, the organization draws inspiration from the courageous White Rose student7 resistance group in Nazi Germany, whose members stood in moral opposition to tyranny and8 paid the ultimate price for defending truth, freedom, and human dignity; and9 WHEREAS, through educational initiatives, public programming, a nd civic engagement10 efforts, the White Rose Society seeks to promote informed citiz enship, preserve historical11 memory, and encourage individuals to uphold democratic principles and moral courage in12 their own communities; and13 WHEREAS, Linda Weinkle Selig, born in Miami, Florida, in 1946 t o Jerome and Zena14 Schwartz Weinkle, relocated to Atlanta in the early 1970s and b ecame deeply engaged in15 S. R. 960 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3899 civic and Jewish communal life, serving in leadership roles wit h the Jewish Federation of16 Greater Atlanta, Hillels of Georgia, the Anti-Defamation League, and the American Jewish17 Committee, as well as a trustee of the Alfred and Adele Davis Academy; and18 WHEREAS, she has demonstrated distinguished leadership as host committee co-chair of19 the 1999 Jewish Federation of North America General Assembly and as co-founder of Make20 It Happen, a media consulting firm dedicated to strategic commu nications and public21 engagement; and22 WHEREAS, through her founding and leadership of the White Rose Society, Linda Selig has23 elevated the importance of historical awareness, ethical respon sibility, and civic24 participation, ensuring that the lessons of the White Rose move ment remain relevant to25 contemporary democratic society; and26 WHEREAS, her lifelong dedication to education, justice, and principled civic engagement27 has strengthened community institutions and reinforced the resp onsibility of citizens to28 protect freedom and uphold democratic values.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 recognize the White Rose Society for its commitment to educatin g the public about the31 ethical foundations of civil liberty and preserving the legacy of the White Rose resistance32 movement as well as honor Linda Weinkle Selig for her visionary leadership, community33 service, and enduring dedication to civic responsibility and democratic education.34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed35 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for dis tribution to Linda Weinkle36 Selig and the White Rose Society.37 S.
