HR1737: HR1737 Perinatal responders; State of Georgia expands the workforce for birth responders who are committed to increasing the safety of families in the childbirth period; honor

26 LC 129 9007 House Resolution 1737 By: Representatives Cannon of the 58th, Miller of the 62nd, Adeyina of the 110th, Mitchell of the 88th, Ali of the 106th, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring perinatal responders as the State of Georgia expands t he workforce for birth1 responders who are committed to increasing the safety of families in the childbirth period;2 and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, perinatal responders are certified by CAPPA, DONA, BAD T and other4 agencies; primarily work in rural and underserved areas of Georgia; and can assist families5 in births that honor traditional and ancestral linkages; and6 WHEREAS, perinatal responders and doulas work during labor, in the birth process, and in7 the immediate postpartum time, offering support, encouragement, information, comfort, and8 referrals as needed; and9 WHEREAS, labor doulas can be found working in the community in private practice, in10 cooperatives, as part of groups or agencies, as well as serving in various community11 programs such as Morehouse school of medicine's center for maternal health equity; and12 WHEREAS, doulas treat family with respect, courtesy, fairness, serving people of any age,13 sex, race, color, creed, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin,14 H. R. 1737 - 1 - 26 LC 129 9007 citizenship, disability, or marital status and uphold federal, state, and local laws, regulations,15 or ordinances; and16 WHEREAS, perinatal responders including Rhonda Barlow, Shanna C ox, Tracy Woods,17 Eden Labbé, Alexis Pitts, Mariah Wall, Imaijah Bernardezruiz, J aniah Collier, Ally18 Williams, Tanessa Mcrae, Shaconna Haley, Qai Hinds, Georgette P eterson, LaCresha19 Cunningham, Amirah Peters,Asia Hinds, Diana Mendoza, Destiny Saucedo, Trinity Johnson,20 Ziah McKinney, Kathryn Kravetz Carr, Kelle Pressley, Za'Kiesha Blanks, Shanelle Hall, Nia21 Harper, Robert Saba, Chanel Stryker, and Clintisha Flemming play a vital role in the care of22 infants and families in Georgia; and23 WHEREAS, organizations such as Tassora Doula and Family Care Services , Georgia Black24 Doula Network, The Haven @ Hebron, Wellstar Hospital, Healing I nnerG, Doula of the25 Divine, LAMIS, NCNW, LAMIS Women's Health Institute, Brown Boso m Babies, LLC,26 Harmonia Sanctuary & Services, InnerLight Holistic Doula & Peri natal Consulting, LLC,27 Spelman College - LAMIS Women's Health Leadership Institute, GB DN, I'm a Angel 2,28 Healing Sacred Scars Foundation, Atlanta resident, BMMA Inc., F ruits of Labor, LAMIS29 Women's Health Leadership Institute, Crossroads and Origins nur se-midwives, The Pink30 Grasshopper Full Spectrum Doula & Training Services, The Power Of Love Birth Services,31 Lamis Women's Health Leadership Institute, EcoFemme Doula, and Lavender Honey Stories32 provide families with exceptional care though the birth and postpartum process.33 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that34 the members of this body honor the dedication, hard work, and outstanding care provided by35 perinatal responders on behalf of families in the State of Georgia. 36 H. R. 1737 - 2 - 26 LC 129 9007 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized37 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the38 public and the press.39 H.
