A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Nasir Shakur Lay; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Nasir Shakur Lay was a beloved son whose life, though tragically brief, brought2
joy, promise, and immeasurable love to his family and to all who knew him; and3
WHEREAS, he was deeply cherished by his mother, Marquenetta Cla rk-Bethune, whose4
devotion, strength, and enduring love reflect the powerful bond between a mother and her5
child; and6
WHEREAS, the loss of a young life is a profound tragedy that touches not only a family but7
also an entire community, reminding us of the precious and irre placeable value of every8
child; and9
WHEREAS, although his time on this earth was far too short, his memory lives on through10
the love of his family and through the compassion and support o f those who stand beside11
them during this difficult time; and12

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that this body pause to recog nize his life and extend13
heartfelt sympathy to his family while acknowledging the strength and resilience they have14
demonstrated in the face of unimaginable loss; and15
WHEREAS, every child's life carries immeasurable worth, and honoring Nasir Shakur Lay's16
memory serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for, protect, and uplift the17
children of this state.18
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that19
the members of this body honor the life and memory of Nasir Shakur Lay and extend their20
deepest condolences to his mother, Marquenetta Clark-Bethune, and to all of his family and21
loved ones.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized23
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the24
family of Nasir Shakur Lay.25
