26 LC 112 3980 House Resolution 1776 By: Representatives Dawson of the 65th, Glaize of the 67th, McQueen of the 61st, Berry of the 56th, Herring of the 145th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the importance of National Board Certification in s trengthening the teaching1 profession in the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the quality of teaching is the most significant in-sch ool factor influencing3 student achievement and long-term educational success; and4 WHEREAS, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) established5 National Board Certification as the highest voluntary professional certification for educators6 in the United States, recognizing accomplished teaching through rigorous standards and a7 commitment to continuous professional growth; and8 WHEREAS, educators who achieve National Board Certification dem onstrate advanced9 content knowledge, expert instructional practice, and the ability to analyze student learning10 to improve outcomes; and11 WHEREAS, National Board Certified Teachers serve as instructional leaders who mentor12 colleagues, strengthen professional learning communities, and s upport improved teaching13 and learning in schools; and14 H. R. 1776 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3980 WHEREAS, research shows that students taught by National Board Certified Teachers15 demonstrate higher academic growth and that schools with more c ertified teachers16 experience stronger collaboration and improved teacher retention; and17 WHEREAS, Georgia currently ranks 50th in the nation in the perc entage of educators18 holding National Board Certification, highlighting an opportunity to expand accomplished19 teaching across the state; and20 WHEREAS, increasing the number of National Board Certified Teachers would strengthen21 the educator workforce, expand teacher leadership, and improve outcomes for Georgia's22 students; and23 WHEREAS, organizations such as the Georgia Teacher Leader Consortium National Board24 Network support teachers pursuing certification through mentoring, professional learning,25 and collaborative networks.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize the contributions of National Board Certified Teachers28 and commend the educators who pursue this rigorous professional certification in service of29 Georgia's students.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body recognize the importance of31 sustained investment in initiatives that support teachers pursu ing National Board32 Certification, including mentoring programs, professional learn ing opportunities, and33 candidate support networks that strengthen the educator workforce and improve outcomes34 for Georgia students.35 H. R. 1776 - 2 - 26 LC 112 3980 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized36 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the37 Georgia Teacher Leader Consortium National Board Network, the N ational Board for38 Professional Teaching Standards, the Georgia Department of Educ ation, and other39 appropriate state education leaders.40 H.
