26 LC 129 1418 House Resolution 1761 By: Representatives Hugley of the 141st, Reese of the 140th, and Williams of the 168th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Ima Jean Fleming Foster; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Ima Jean Fleming Foster on March 1, 2026; and3 WHEREAS, Ima Jean Fleming Foster was born on August 3, 1951, in Forrest City, a beloved4 daughter of the late Alexander Fleming and Jessie Mae Johnson Fleming; and5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Fleming Foster was known as a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted6 wife, and a loyal friend whose warmth, wisdom, and strength left a lasting impression on all7 who knew her; and 8 WHEREAS, she attended Lane College in Jackson, where she distin guished herself9 academically and embraced a lifelong commitment to service as well as was a proud member10 of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Fleming Foster devoted more than 40 years to the field of education,12 serving as an inspiring and dedicated History, French, and Social Science teacher; and13 H. R. 1761 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1418 WHEREAS, for 20 years, she served as a National Honor Society D irector, mentoring14 countless students and guiding them toward academic excellence, leadership, and service;15 and16 WHEREAS, in recognition of her excellence in education, Mrs. Fleming Foster was honored17 as Teacher of the Year at several institutions, including San Elizario High School, Dunbar18 High School, and Forrest City High School, a testament to the p rofound and positive19 influence she had in every community she served; and20 WHEREAS, beyond the classroom, Mrs. Fleming Foster was also kno wn for her m any21 personal talents; she was a devoted track and field and cross-c ountry coach, encouraging22 discipline, perseverance, and confidence in her athletes, as well as was a passionate cook and23 skilled craftsman; and 24 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation25 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,26 she made this world a better place in which to live; and27 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Mrs. Fleming Foste r will long be28 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who29 had the great fortune of knowing her.30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that31 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Ima Jean Fleming Foster32 and express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.33 H. R. 1761 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1418 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the35 family of Ima Jean Fleming Foster.36 H.
