26 LC 112 3742 Senate Resolution 968 By: Senators Halpern of the 39th, Watson of the 1st and Kirkpatrick of the 32nd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. Gyimah Whitaker; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Gyimah Whitaker, EdD, began her tenure as Superint endent of the City2 Schools of Decatur on July 1, 2023, bringing more than two deca des of educational3 leadership experience to one of Georgia's most respected school districts; and4 WHEREAS, prior to leading City Schools of Decatur, Dr. Whitaker served in progressively5 responsible roles in Georgia's largest school systems, including as Deputy Chief Academic6 Officer of Fulton County Schools and as an area superintendent and executive director,7 shaping academic programs and improving outcomes across diverse student populations; and8 WHEREAS, throughout her career, Dr. Whitaker has demonstrated a steadfast commitment9 to equity, academic excellence, high-quality instruction, and s tudent-centered leadership,10 fostering collaborative learning environments in schools and communities alike; and11 WHEREAS, as Superintendent, she has focused on implementing the district's strategic12 vision, "All In Decatur," emphasizing meaningful engagement with families, educators, and13 stakeholders to advance achievement, equity, and opportunity for every student; and14 S. R. 968 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3742 WHEREAS, Dr. Whitaker's work in education has been recognized b eyond the local15 community, including her selection to serve on the governing bo ard of the American16 Association of School Administrators, where she represents Geor gia and contributes to17 national dialogue on public school leadership and policy; and18 WHEREAS, Dr. Whitaker's academic credentials, including degrees from the University of19 Pennsylvania and a doctorate in educational leadership and admi nistration from Georgia20 State University, underscore her commitment to lifelong learnin g and professional21 excellence; and22 WHEREAS, under her leadership, City Schools of Decatur continues to uphold a tradition23 of high expectations, innovative instruction, and inclusive col laboration that benefits24 students, families, educators, and the broader community; and25 WHEREAS, Dr. Gyimah Whitaker's visionary leadership, dedication to student success, and26 commitment to educational equity serve as an inspiration to edu cators and learners27 throughout the region.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 recognize and commend Dr. Gyimah Whitaker, Superintendent of th e City Schools of30 Decatur, and extend sincere best wishes for continued success.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Dr. Gyimah33 Whitaker.34 S.
