HR1775: HR1775 2026 Georgia Single Parent "Legacy Builders" Recognition and Awards finalists, "Overcomer Founder" award, and "Ruth Brewster Endurance" award recipients for their achievements; commend

26 LC 112 3949 House Resolution 1775 By: Representatives Schofield of the 63rd, Lewis-Ward of the 115th, Davis of the 87th, Scott of the 76th, Cameron of the 1st, and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating and commending the 2026 Georgia Single Parent "L egacy Builders"1 Recognition and Awards finalists, "Overcomer Founder" award, an d "Ruth Brewster2 Endurance" award recipients for their achievements; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, in recognition of the many single parents in Georgia, House Resolution 279 was4 signed into law, designating March 21 annually as Single Parent Day in Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, The National Leadership Group Inc. and former State Representative Valencia6 Stovall identified the need in 2019 to create an annual event for single parents, launching the7 Georgia Single Parent "Legacy Builders" Recognition and Awards to honor the dedication8 and accomplishments of single parents, regardless of gender, cu ltural background, or9 economic status; and10 WHEREAS, the Georgia Single Parent "Overcomer Founder" award, established by former11 State Representative Valencia Stovall in 2022, recognizes single parents who have triumphed12 over significant challenges to provide their children with the opportunity to thrive and13 succeed; and14 H. R. 1775 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3949 WHEREAS, the Georgia Single Parent "Ruth Brewster Endurance" Award, established by15 Mother Ruth Brewster in 2023, honors single parents who perseve re through adversity to16 create a nurturing, supportive environment for their children's success; and17 WHEREAS, twenty-eight individuals have been nominated for recognition at the Seventh18 Annual Georgia Single Parent "Legacy Builders" Recognition and Awards event on March19 21, 2026, with the following outstanding single parents as special awardees: Melvennia Clark20 of Morrow in the Community Service category; Yoni Dansby of Jonesboro in the Medical21 & Health category; Melba Furlow of College Park in the Educatio n category; Eleorra22 Hamilton of Atlanta in the Arts & Entertainment category; Richea Harris of Fayetteville in23 the Public Service category; Monica Moore of McDonough in the Public Service category;24 Bridgette Spice of Fayetteville in the Community Service catego ry; Ardale Tillman of25 Conyers in the Business Owner category; and Bayyinnah White of Peachtree City in the26 Faith Based category; and27 WHEREAS, the 2026 Georgia Single Parent "Overcomer Founder" awa rd recipients are28 Libra Hicks of Buford and Robert Jordan of Rincon; and29 WHEREAS, the 2026 Georgia Single Parent "Ruth Brewster Endurance" award recipient is30 Sechita McNair of Atlanta; and31 WHEREAS, parents must invest immeasurable amounts of time, energy, and devotion when32 raising their children in order to provide them with the love, support, and guidance required33 to become responsible, productive, and successful adults; and34 WHEREAS, the responsibility of raising children in today's society is particularly difficult35 when it falls on the shoulders of a single parent; and36 H. R. 1775 - 2 - 26 LC 112 3949 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to honor the outst anding accomplishments37 of these remarkable individuals for their exemplary contributions and unwavering dedication.38 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that39 the members of this body congratulate and commend the 2026 Geor gia Single Parent40 "Legacy Builders" Recognition and Awards recipients for being exemplary single parent role41 models and extend the most sincere best wishes for future success.42 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized43 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to each44 of the recipients named herein.45 H.
