26 LC 129 1448 House Resolution 1780 By: Representatives Beckles of the 96th, Hugley of the 141st, Cummings of the 39th, Dawson of the 65th, Herring of the 145th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and honoring Shri Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan, Consul Ge neral of India,1 Atlanta, United States of America, for his distinguished diplomatic service and extraordinary2 contributions to the State of Georgia and the Indian-American c ommunity; and for other3 purposes.4 WHEREAS, Shri Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan is a distinguished career diplomat who joined5 the Indian Foreign Service in 2005 and served with great distinction as the Consul General6 of India, Atlanta, representing the interests of the Republic of India across the southeastern7 United States; and8 WHEREAS, Consul General Lakshmanan brought to his Atlanta posti ng a wealth of9 international experience, having served in various capacities at Indian Missions in Moscow,10 Russia; Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Paris, France; and Colombo, Sri L anka, where he skillfully11 handled political, commercial, and cultural dimensions of bilateral relations; and12 WHEREAS, throughout his tenure in Atlanta, Consul General Lakshmanan worked tirelessly13 to strengthen the bonds of friendship, trade, and cultural exchange between the Republic of14 India and the State of Georgia, recognizing that more than 140, 000 Indian-Americans call15 H. R. 1780 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1448 Georgia home, making them an integral part of the state's diverse and vibrant community;16 and17 WHEREAS, Consul General Lakshmanan actively partnered with Georgia's business leaders,18 academic institutions, government officials, and community orga nizations to deepen19 economic ties between the southeastern United States and India, a nation that ranks among20 Georgia's fastest-growing top ten export destinations; and21 WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Consulate General of India i n Atlanta expanded its22 outreach to universities, facilitated educational exchanges, and advocated for Indian students23 and professionals in the region, supporting initiatives that ad vanced science, technology,24 healthcare, and innovation; and25 WHEREAS, Consul General Lakshmanan engaged warmly and consistently with Georgia's26 Indian-American diaspora through consular camps, cultural celebrations, community forums,27 and digital initiatives to modernize consular services, making the consulate more accessible28 to all constituents; and29 WHEREAS, Georgia's fintech corridor-known as 'Transaction Alley'-and the state's broader30 technology sector benefited from his efforts to foster collabor ation between Indian31 entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators and their Georgia counterparts; and32 WHEREAS, Consul General Lakshmanan's service has left a lasting legacy of strengthened33 India-U.S. relations, a more connected Indian-American communit y in the Southeast, and34 a deepened partnership between the Republic of India and the State of Georgia.35 H. R. 1780 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1448 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that36 the members of this body recognize and honor Shri Ramesh Babu L akshmanan, Consul37 General of India, Atlanta, United States of America, for his outstanding diplomatic service,38 his profound commitment to the Indian-American community of Georgia, and his exemplary39 contributions to strengthening the ties of friendship, commerce , culture, and goodwill40 between the Republic of India and the State of Georgia.41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body expresses its sincere gra titude to Consul42 General Lakshmanan for his dedicated service and extends their best wishes for continued43 success, and further expresses their hope that the enduring fri endship between India and44 Georgia will continue to flourish for generations to come.45 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized46 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Shri47 Ramesh Babu Lakshmanan.48 H.
