26 LC 129 1297 Senate Resolution 980 By: Senators Halpern of the 39th, Harrell of the 40th, Jackson of the 41st, Parent of the 44th, Anderson of the 43rd and others A RESOLUTION Honoring District Attorney Sherry Boston for her historic leade rship, distinguished legal1 career, and dedicated service as District Attorney of DeKalb County; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, District Attorney Sherry Boston has devoted her professional life to upholding3 the rule of law, protecting victims, and strengthening public safety through fair and ethical4 prosecution; and5 WHEREAS, District Attorney Boston is a proud graduate of Spelma n College, where she6 earned her undergraduate degree, and Emory University School of Law, where she earned7 her Juris Doctor, preparing her for a career rooted in service, leadership, and justice; and8 WHEREAS, she began her prosecutorial career in the DeKalb Count y District Attorney's9 Office, where she served as an Assistant District Attorney and later as a Senior Assistant10 District Attorney, handling complex felony cases and earning a reputation for diligence,11 integrity, and courtroom excellence; and12 WHEREAS, in 2016, Sherry Boston was elected District Attorney o f DeKalb County,13 becoming the first African American woman to hold the office, marking a historic milestone14 in the county's legal and civic history; and15 S. R. 980 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1297 WHEREAS, under her leadership, the DeKalb County District Attor ney's Office has16 implemented innovative, data-driven strategies designed to redu ce violent crime, support17 victims, and improve efficiency within the criminal justice system; and18 WHEREAS, District Attorney Boston has prioritized victim advoca cy and community19 engagement, strengthening partnerships with law enforcement age ncies, community20 organizations, and neighborhood stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to public21 safety; and22 WHEREAS, she has championed initiatives focused on accountabili ty courts, youth23 intervention programs, and evidence-based alternatives that see k to break cycles of24 recidivism while maintaining firm prosecution of violent offenders; and25 WHEREAS, District Attorney Boston's historic leadership and tireless dedication reflect a26 steadfast commitment to transparency, ethical standards, and re storing and maintaining27 public trust in the justice system, and through her service she continues to serve as a role28 model for aspiring attorneys and public servants across the State of Georgia.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 honor and commend District Attorney Sherry Boston for her histo ric achievements,31 exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice and public safety as District32 Attorney of DeKalb County.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed34 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to District Attorney35 Sherry Boston.36 S.
