26 LC 112 3978 House Resolution 1777 By: Representatives Bell of the 75th, Draper of the 90th, McQueen of the 61st, Olaleye of the 59th, Crawford of the 89th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending OJ da Juiceman for his contributions to Georgia's hip-hop1 culture and his pioneering role in the development of Southern trap music; and for other2 purposes.3 WHEREAS, Otis Williams Jr., professionally known as OJ da Juiceman, is an Atlanta-based4 rapper and entrepreneur who emerged from the East Atlanta zone in the mid-2000s and5 became widely recognized as an early voice in the Southern trap movement; and6 WHEREAS, known for his energetic delivery, signature ad-libs, and colorful street slang, OJ7 da Juiceman helped shape the distinctive sound and culture of modern trap music, bringing8 authenticity and creativity to the genre while representing the voice and experiences of9 Atlanta communities; and10 WHEREAS, OJ da Juiceman first gained national attention through collaborations with11 fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, becoming one of the earliest affiliates of the influential12 Brick Squad 1017 collective and helping introduce a new era of trap music to a wider13 audience; and14 H. R. 1777 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3978 WHEREAS, their street anthem "Make the Trap Say Aye" quickly be came a staple of the15 Southern rap scene, showcasing OJ da Juiceman's unique style and helping propel Atlanta's16 trap sound into the national spotlight; and17 WHEREAS, in 2009, he released his debut studio album The Otha Side of the Trap!, which18 further solidified his reputation as a key figure in the Atlanta trap wave that would later grow19 to dominate hip-hop music around the world; and20 WHEREAS, through unmistakable catchphrases such as "Aye!" and a style that blends21 playful charisma with gritty storytelling, OJ da Juiceman helpe d pioneer the raw,22 street-focused aesthetic that defined Atlanta's late-2000s trap era; and23 WHEREAS, beyond his musical success, he has remained active as an independent artist and24 entrepreneur, continuing to release music, perform nationwide, and inspire a new generation25 of Southern artists while maintaining a strong connection to the culture and community that26 shaped his career; and27 WHEREAS, today, OJ da Juiceman stands as a respected veteran of Atlanta hip-hop,28 recognized for helping bring the trap sound from local streets to international stages while29 remaining true to his authentic voice and artistic vision.30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that31 the members of this body commend OJ da Juiceman for his pioneer ing contributions to32 Southern trap music and his lasting influence on the culture and sound of hip-hop.33 H.
