26 LC 112 3900 Senate Resolution 983 By: Senators Anderson of the 43rd, Jones II of the 22nd, Parent of the 44th, Payne of the 54th, Brass of the 6th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Senator Ed Harbison; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Senator Ed Harbison has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for2 the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep pe rsonal commitment to the3 welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and4 WHEREAS, first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1992, Sen ator Ed Harbison5 represents the citizens of Macon, Marion, Talbot, Taylor, and S chley counties, as well as6 portions of Chattahoochee County and Muscogee County; and7 WHEREAS, he currently serves as chairman of the State Instituti ons and Property8 Committee; ranking member of the Banking and Financial Institutions, Insurance and Labor,9 Interstate Cooperation, Reapportionment and Redistricting, and Ethics committees; and vice10 chairman of Veterans, Military and Homeland Security committee; and11 WHEREAS, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and Purple Heart recipient, he is12 responsible for the legislation that designated Georgia as a Pu rple Heart State, created a13 separate court for veterans, and established the Military Hall of Fame in Georgia; and14 S. R. 983 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3900 WHEREAS, Senator Ed Harbison has received numerous honors in re cognition of his15 exemplary service and professional accomplishments, including t he James Costen16 Government Services Award, the National Infantry Association's Order of Saint Maurice, the17 Department of Defense's Vietnam Veterans of Appreciation Award, t h e L e g a c y o f18 Leadership Award, and many more; and19 WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable patience and20 diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of this state have21 earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; and22 WHEREAS, Senator Ed Harbison is a person of magnanimous strengt h s w i t h a n23 unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and24 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this25 remarkable and distinguished public servant be appropriately honored.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 recognize and commend Senator Ed Harbison for his efficient, ef fective, unselfish, and28 dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and this natio n as well as extend the most29 sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Senator Ed32 Harbison.33 S.
