26 LC 112 3739 Senate Resolution 966 By: Senators Halpern of the 39th, Wicks of the 34th, Albers of the 56th, Jackson of the 41st, Davenport of the 17th and others A RESOLUTION Honoring and commending Dr. A. Lois Keith for her lifetime of e xemplary leadership,1 service, and unwavering commitment to the mission of the Nation a l C o u n c i l o f N e g r o2 Women; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Dr. A. Lois Keith is a Legacy Life Member and Bethune Achiever of the4 National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) who has dedicated much o f her life to5 advancing the organization's mission of advocacy, leadership, and community empowerment;6 and7 WHEREAS, in 2016, Dr. Keith was honored to serve as Co-Chair of NCNW's 57th National8 Convention and was elected to the position of National Vice President, reflecting the trust9 and confidence placed in her leadership; and10 WHEREAS, Dr. Keith has served as National Membership Chair during the administrations11 of Dr. Dorothy I. Height and Ms. Ingrid Saunders Jones, contrib uting significantly to the12 growth, sustainability, and strength of the organization; and13 S. R. 966 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3739 WHEREAS, in 2022, Dr. Keith was reappointed as National Vice Pr esident and served as14 a member of the NCNW Transition Team, as well as Co-Chair of the 60th Biennial National15 Convention; and16 WHEREAS, Dr. Keith's extensive service to NCNW includes roles a s Executive17 Member-at-Large, member of the National Nominating Committee, member of the National18 Re-Certification Committee, National Assistant Secretary, Co-Ch air of Membership, and19 member of the President's Circle; and20 WHEREAS, at the local level, Dr. Keith has demonstrated steadfa st leadership within the21 DeKalb Section of NCNW, serving as President, First Vice President, Second Vice President,22 Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Chair of the Leadership Committee, and as a charter member23 of the DeKalb Pacesetters Life Guild; and24 WHEREAS, beyond NCNW, Dr. Keith is a champion for equitable education, having earned25 a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Alabama A&M U niversity, a master's26 degree in middle school education from Georgia State University, and completing additional27 studies at Mercer University, followed by a distinguished 30-year teaching career with the28 Henry County School System; and29 WHEREAS, Dr. Keith's excellence in education and service has be en recognized through30 numerous honors, including Teacher of the Year awards, nomination to Who's Who Among31 America's Teachers , the Principal's Award, and the establishment of the Lois Keit h32 Trailblazer Award for Exemplary Community Service in her honor; and33 WHEREAS, Dr. Keith's civic engagement further includes service with organizations such34 as the East Metro Orchids, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorpor ated, Kappa Delta Pi35 S. R. 966 - 2 - 26 LC 112 3739 National Honor Society, and the Classy Sassy Red Hatters, reflecting a lifelong commitment36 to leadership and service.37 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body38 honor and commend Dr. A. Lois Keith for her lifetime of leaders hip, service, and39 transformative impact within NCNW, education, and the broader community.40 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed41 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. A.
