26 LC 129 1441 House Resolution 1756 By: Representatives McClain of the 109 th, Williams of the 168 th, Hugley of the 141 st, Mitchell of the 88th, Griffin of the 149th, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Andre Moses White; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Andre Moses White; and3 WHEREAS, Andre Moses White was born in Winter Park, Florida, a beloved son of Moses4 and Lucille White; and5 WHEREAS, her grew up in Tampa, Florida, and attended Middleton High School and6 Lincoln High School; and7 WHEREAS, he matriculated to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU),8 where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education w ith a minor in Health9 Education; and 10 WHEREAS, after graduating from FAMU, Andre Moses White was drafted by the Denver11 Broncos as a Tight End and later played for the San Diego Charg ers and the Cincinnati12 Bengals; and13 H. R. 1756 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1441 WHEREAS, following a career-ending injury, he returned to Tampa and served as the Equal14 Employment Opportunity Commission Officer for Hillsborough County, where he is most15 well-known for fighting to remove the confederate flag from the county seal; and16 WHEREAS, following in his father’s footsteps in food and entert ainment, Andre Moses17 White continued the legacy of Moses White’s Cozy Corner BBQ restaurant and later became18 the Road Manager for Marvin Gaye and a long-time confidant and business colleague of19 James Brown; and 20 WHEREAS, Andre Moses White and his family moved to Atlanta, Geo rgia, in the late21 1980s, where he and his son started The Georgia Sentinel , a progressive news outlet for22 Atlanta’s African-American community; and23 WHEREAS, while in Atlanta, he became the President of the Aubur n Avenue Merchants24 Association; and 25 WHEREAS, during his tenure as President, he helped to rebuild t he historical business26 district and bring back patrons to the area, re-established the Auburn Avenue Festival, and27 hosted the return of James Brown and the Famous Flames in a free reunion concert for the28 community; and 29 WHEREAS, continuing his work in the community, Andre Moses White organized health30 fairs to bring healthy habits, proper medical care, and nutrition to those most in need; and31 WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Andre Moses White was an active member of32 First Saint Paul A.M.E Church in Lithonia, Georgia; and33 H. R. 1756 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1441 WHEREAS, at the age of 71, Andre Moses White released two songs, We're Americans and34 My Man, with his son’s media company, Savant Media Ventures, where he took a bold stand35 for American values; and 36 WHEREAS, he was the founder of the Moses White Foundation, where served as President37 of the Foundation until his untimely passing from COVID-19 in 2020; and38 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation39 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he40 made this world a better place in which to live.41 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that42 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Andre Moses White and43 express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized45 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the46 family of Andre Moses White.47 H.
