Senate Resolution 991

A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 17, 2026, as Grayson Day at the Capitol; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, located in Gwinnett County, the City of Grayson was officially incorporated on2
December 17, 1902, by an Act of the Georgia General Assembly, w ith John E. Jacobs3
serving as its first mayor; and4
WHEREAS, the area that would become the City of Grayson was first developed during the5
early 19th century through the efforts of numerous founding families, the names and legacies6
of which remain visible across Grayson today; and7
WHEREAS, soon after its incorporation, the City of Grayson deve loped its first formal8
schools and saw the growth of churches such as Chestnut Grove B aptist Church, Asbury9
Methodist Episcopal Church South, and Grayson Baptist Church; and10
WHEREAS, the railroad served as an important part of daily life in Grayson from 1898 until11
passenger service ended in January 1932, with the depot area remaining visible between Britt12
and Gym Streets; and13

WHEREAS, the City of Grayson is now home to many historical sites and areas of interest,14
including the Cofer Home, the Chupp-Britt Home, the Etheridge H ome, the Potato House15
Building, Hoke Cown's Store, and the Old Grayson Post Office; and16
WHEREAS, the city has continued to demonstrate sustained growth , strong civic17
engagement, and a commitment to the well-being of its citizens; and18
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the rich and enduring history of this19
extraordinary city be appropriately honored during this special time.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21
recognize March 17, 2026, as Grayson Day at the Capitol.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed23
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the24
press.25
