26 LC 112 4004 House Resolution 1801 By: Representative Scott of the 76th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Lewis Givens Sr.; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, it is appropriate and fitting to recognize the lives o f those individuals whose2 faith, dedication to family, and service to community have left a l a s t i n g l e g a c y f o r3 generations to follow; and4 WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. was born on September 17, 1899, in Tallahassee, Florida, the5 beloved son of the late Robert Givens and Frances Jenkins-Givens; and6 WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. lived a life marked by devotion to fa mily, community, and7 faith, becoming a pillar of strength and guidance to those who knew and loved him; and8 WHEREAS, he was united in holy matrimony to the late Malinda Atkins-Givens in January9 1921, and through this blessed union, they raised eight children—five daughters and three10 sons—building a legacy of love, resilience, and family unity; and11 WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. accepted Christ as his Savior in July of 1982 and became a12 devoted member of St. Marks Primitive Baptist Church, where he worshiped faithfully under13 the leadership of Reverend Matthew Balkman; and14 H. R. 1801 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4004 WHEREAS, he was a respected member of the Masonic Brothers of Cherry Hill 549, AFRO15 American Lodge #14, and the University Pallbearers Lodge, reflecting his commitment to16 brotherhood, service, and community fellowship; and17 WHEREAS, throughout his long life, he was blessed with a large and loving family, and he18 leaves behind a legacy through his children, grandchildren, gre at-grandchildren, and19 great-great-grandchildren, whose lives continue to be shaped by his example and wisdom;20 and21 WHEREAS, Lewis Givens Sr. departed this life on Thursday, January 14, 1999, at 9:10 PM,22 leaving a profound sense of loss to his family, church, and com munity as well as many23 cherished memories and a legacy of faith and perseverance; and24 WHEREAS, his life serves as a powerful reminder that faith, fam ily devotion, and25 community service are the foundations upon which strong generations are built.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f Lewis Givens Sr. and28 express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the31 family of Lewis Givens Sr.32 H.
