A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Steven Gregory Mapes; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, on February 13, 2026, off-duty Fire Captain Steven Gre gory Mapes2
demonstrated extraordinary courage and professionalism when he heroically helped in saving3
the life of a hockey player who suffered from sudden cardiac arrest; and4
WHEREAS, despite being off-duty at the time, he immediately pla ced his training5
experience into action; and 6
WHEREAS, Captain Mapes, a firefighter and paramedic with Pauldi ng County Fire and7
Rescue, immediately recognized the emergency, and without hesitation called for an AED,8
and began CPR while players, referees, and arena staff assisted; and9
WHEREAS, the quick and heroic actions of Captain Mapes played a vital role in the10
lifesaving efforts that day, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of bystander11
response during cardiac emergencies; and12

WHEREAS, Captain Mapes actions reflect the highest ideals of public service and exemplify13
the unwavering commitment that first responders make to upholding the safety of the citizens14
of Georgia; and15
WHEREAS, his extraordinary actions serve as an inspiring exampl e of professionalism,16
courage, and the profound impact one individual can make in a moment of crisis.17
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that18
the members of this body recognize and commend Steven Gregory Mapes and express their19
utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public20
servant.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized22
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to23
Steven Gregory Mapes.24
