A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Horace Humphries Jr.; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Horace Humphries Jr. on February 28, 2026; and3
WHEREAS, Horace Humphries Jr. was born on December 27, 1940, in Milledgeville,4
Georgia, a beloved son of Horace Sr. and Willie Maude Humphries; and5
WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and l iberty with the United6
States Air Force, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans before retiring7
at the rank of Colonel; and8
WHEREAS, during his distinguished military career, he held lead ership roles such as9
Commander of the 60th Security Police Squadron, Travis AFB, and the 836th Transportation10
Squadron, Davis Monthan AFB; Director of Law Enforcement & Antiterrorism, HQ Military11
Airlift Command; and AF Intelligence Liaison Officer, Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam; and12
WHEREAS, Horace Humphries Jr. was a highly decorated veteran re cipient of numerous13
awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, Distingu ished Service Medal,14

Meritorious Service Medal, AF Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, and more;15
and16
WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife of 60 y ears, Joyce, and was17
blessed with two remarkable children, Timothy and Leslie, as we ll as a wonderful18
granddaughter, Nalah; and19
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern20
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his21
family and friends were admired by others; and22
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation23
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he24
made this world a better place in which to live; and25
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Horace Humphries Jr. will long be26
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who27
had the great fortune of knowing him.28
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Horace Humphries Jr. and30
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.31
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the33
family of Horace Humphries Jr.34
