26 LC 112 3930 House Resolution 1799 By: Representatives Tran of the 80th, Roberts of the 52nd, Panitch of the 51st, Lupton of the 83rd, and Holcomb of the 101st A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Major William "Rusty" Furman Jr.; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia lost one of its finest citizens a nd most dedicated law2 enforcement officers with the passing of Major William "Rusty" Furman Jr. on February 22,3 2026; and4 WHEREAS, Major William "Rusty" Furman Jr. was an original member of the Dunwoody5 Police Department who dedicated 28 years of service in law enfo rcement, including roles6 within the Marietta and Cobb County police departments; and7 WHEREAS, he was highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by local8 government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound9 principles of law enforcement; and10 WHEREAS, Major William "Rusty" Furman Jr. exhibited extraordinary devotion to public11 service, outstanding loyalty, fine leadership, and meticulous attention to detail in all of his12 duties; and13 H. R. 1799 - 1 - 26 LC 112 3930 WHEREAS, he will long be remembered for his inspiring commitmen t to the welfare of14 others, which stands as a shining example of the positive effec t law enforcement15 professionals have on the lives and well-being of others.16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that17 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f Major William "Rusty"18 Furman Jr. and express their most sincere condolences at his passing.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized20 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the21 family of Major William "Rusty" Furman Jr.22 H.
