26 LC 129 0658 House Resolution 1807 By: Representatives Gambill of the 15th and Erwin of the 32nd A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and legacy of Sally FitzGerald and designating February 14, 2026, as Sally1 FitzGerald Day; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens3 with the passing of Sally FitzGerald (Wiesneth) on February 11, 2025, at the age of 87; and4 WHEREAS, Sally FitzGerald was born in November 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska, and5 devoted her life to public service, education advocacy, and civic leadership; and6 WHEREAS, she earned a degree in Business Administration from th e University of7 Nebraska-Lincoln and built a distinguished professional career in information technology8 with AT&T Long Lines and IBM before relocating with her family to Atlanta, Georgia, in9 1979; and10 WHEREAS, Sally FitzGerald served as treasurer during the succes sful 1984 campaign to11 restore democratic governance to the Fulton County Board of Education, helping return the12 school board to elected representation after more than a century of appointed leadership; and13 H. R. 1807 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0658 WHEREAS, she also served as a leading advocate for local self-g overnance through her14 support of the incorporation of the City of Sandy Springs, contributing to the successful 200515 referendum and the establishment of one of Georgia's largest newly formed municipalities;16 and17 WHEREAS, Sally FitzGerald gave countless hours of service to the Fulton County School18 District and the schools attended by her children, serving in l eadership roles including19 President of the Sandy Springs Middle School PTA and President of the North Fulton20 Council of PTAs; and21 WHEREAS, she represented the Georgia PTA and the League of Women Voters of Georgia22 at the Georgia General Assembly through Capitol Watch advocacy, providing legislative23 reports and strengthening civic engagement and governmental transparency across the state;24 and25 WHEREAS, her participation in Leadership Sandy Springs and her continued mentorship of26 civic leaders left a lasting legacy of service, accountability, and advocacy for children and27 families throughout Georgia.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29 the members of this body honor the life, service, and enduring legacy of Sally FitzGerald as30 well as recognize February 14, 2026, as Sally FitzGerald Day at the state capitol.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the33 family of Sally FitzGerald.34 H.
