A RESOLUTION
Urging the Commissioner of Insurance to conduct a comprehensive review of prescription1
drug pricing and identify strategies to reduce the cost of prescription medications for citizens2
of the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.3
WHEREAS, the cost of prescription drugs has increased significantly in recent years, placing4
a substantial financial burden on patients, families, employers, and public health programs5
across the State of Georgia; and6
WHEREAS, high prescription drug prices can lead to decreased me dication adherence,7
resulting in worsened health outcomes and increased long-term healthcare costs; and8
WHEREAS, greater transparency of pharmaceutical pricing, includ ing the roles of9
manufacturers, pharmacy benefits managers, insurers, and other stakeholders, is necessary10
to fully understand cost drivers within the pharmaceutical supply chain; and11
WHEREAS, other states have undertaken comprehensive reviews of prescription drug12
affordability, including the use of all-payer claims data, advi sory panels, and reporting13
requirements to better understand pricing trends and identify policy solutions; and14

WHEREAS, a coordinated, evidence based review in Georgia would help identify15
opportunities to improve affordability, enhance transparency, and ensure that cost savings16
are passed on to consumers; and17
WHEREAS, the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance is uniquely positioned to evaluate18
insurance market practices, claims data, and pricing structures affecting prescription drug19
costs in Georgia.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21
the members of this body urge the Commissioner of Insurance to conduct a comprehensive22
review of prescription drug pricing and identify strategies to reduce the cost of prescription23
medications for citizens of the State of Georgia.24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a report of findings and recommendations be submitted25
to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker o f the House of26
Representatives.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the29
Commissioner of Insurance, the public, and the press. 30
