26 LC 129 1473 House Resolution 1839 By: Representatives Williamson of the 112 th, Efstration of the 104 th, Meeks of the 178 th, Anderson of the 10th, Hatchett of the 155th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Atlanta Gas Light on its 170th anniv ersary; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, on February 16, 2026, Atlanta Gas Light celebrated 170 years of operation,3 remaining the oldest corporation in the City of Atlanta and one of the oldest corporations in4 the State of Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light lit the first gas lamps in Atlanta on December 25, 1855, and6 was officially incorporated by the Georgia General Assembly on February 16, 1856; and7 WHEREAS, today, Atlanta Gas Light's skilled and dedicated workf orce serves as trusted8 energy partners to the approximately 1.8 million customers who rely on them every day; and9 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light plays a pivotal role in Georgia's growing economy, investing10 as much as $50 million annually in its natural gas infrastructu re, helping attract new11 businesses, create jobs, improve efficiency, and strengthen local economies across Georgia;12 and13 H. R. 1839 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1473 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light's sustained investment has helped position Georgia among14 the nation's top states for business and continues to enable gr owth in manufacturing,15 logistics, and more; and16 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light's innovation continues to deliver comfort for customers while17 new operational efficiencies enhance customer value; and 18 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light employees contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually19 to the nonprofits serving the most locally relevant needs, strengthening neighborhoods, and20 supporting people across Geogia; and21 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light supports communities throughout Georgia and, together with22 its foundation, has invested more than $150 million in community initiatives across the state23 since its founding; and 24 WHEREAS, in 2025, Atlanta Gas Light and its foundation provided more than $2.5 million25 in critical assistance to local nonprofit and community organizations, advancing economic26 mobility, environmental stewardship, and community resilience thoughtout Georgia as well27 as helping Georgians experiencing hardship through energy-bill relief programs and United28 Way's 211 services; and 29 WHEREAS, Atlanta Gas Light employees contibuted more than 4,000 community service30 hours in 2025, supporting economic mobility, environmental stewardship, and community31 enrichment efforts across Georgia.32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that33 the members of this body recognize and commend Atlanta Gas Ligh t upon the grand34 H. R. 1839 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1473 occasion of its 170th anniversary and celebrate its commitment to being "a citizen wherever35 we serve."36 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized37 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to38 Atlanta Gas Light.39 H.
