A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Lieutenant Colonel Larry Buford Boggs and dedicating an intersection in his1
honor; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Larry Buford Boggs has deep roots i n Carroll County,3
Georgia, as a graduate of Villa Rica High School, where he was a proud member of the4
school's varsity football team during a time when helmets had no face guard which resulted5
in a broken nose and the loss of two teeth; and6
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Boggs earned his bachelor's degree from West Georgia College and7
shortly after was a guardian of this nation's freedom and liber ty with the United States8
Marine Corps, serving in Virginia, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Cuba before retiring9
after 22 years of service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and10
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Boggs began his professional career with Unit ed States Gypsum11
Corporation before founding Benchmark Homes and B&W Properties in 1971; and12
WHEREAS, under his leadership, more than 3,000 homes were built and commercial and13
industrial projects exceeding $750 million in value were develo ped, significantly14
strengthening the region's tax base and economic vitality; and15

WHEREAS, he played an instrumental role in the economic development of this state with16
the development of Arbor Place Mall in Douglas County, renovation of a 300,000 square foot17
facility now home to Sugar Foods Corporation, development of industrial sites near Liberty18
Road in Villa Rica, and the construction of facilities for the Tanner Health System and19
numerous manufacturing and warehouse projects in Carroll County; and20
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished21
Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his honor.22
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL23
ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of the Villa Rica North Loop Bypass and24
Dallas Highway in Carroll County is dedicated as the Lt. Col. Larry Boggs Intersection.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and26
directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Lt. Col. Larry Boggs27
Intersection.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to30
Lieutenant Colonel Larry Buford Boggs and to the Department of Transportation.31
