26 LC 129 1367 Senate Resolution 1005 By: Senators Parent of the 44th, Jackson of the 41st, Goodman of the 8th, Harrell of the 40th, Anderson of the 43rd and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Mayor Patti Garrett upon her retirem ent; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mayor Patti Garrett has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the3 vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare4 of the citizens of Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,6 talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as evidenced7 dramatically by her superlative 16 years of service to the City of Decatur, Georgia; and8 WHEREAS, after moving to Oakhurst in 2001, she became deeply in volved in her9 community, serving on the board of the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association, participating10 in the Oakhurst Community Garden, and chairing the Oakhurst Tour of Homes; and 11 WHEREAS, in 2010, Mayor Garrett was sworn in as a member of the Decatur City12 Commission; and 13 S. R. 1005 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1367 WHEREAS, during her tenure on the commission, she spearheaded s everal important14 developments across the City of Decatur, including a renewed fo cused on attracting15 businesses and increasing dens ity downtown, planning new land u se for parking lots,16 implementing Safe Routes to sc hool, and expanding the city's us e of new technology and17 social media platforms; and 18 WHEREAS, she was elected Mayor of Decatur in 2016 and proudly l ed the city to the19 purchase of Legacy Park within her first year of service, in ad dition to countless other20 notable achievements; and21 WHEREAS, Mayor Garrett has served with honor and distinction with the City of Decatur,22 and her vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her23 retirement; and24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 recognize and commend Mayor Patti Garrett for her efficient, ef fective, unselfish, and26 dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate her upon the grand occasion27 of her retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and28 happiness.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Mayor Patti31 Garrett.32 S.
