26 LC 129 1469 House Resolution 1879 By: Representatives Mitchell of the 88th and Alexander of the 66th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Tameka Harris; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Tameka Harris was born in College Park, Georgia, and r ose to fame in the2 1990s as a member of the multi-platinum R&B vocal group Xscape; and3 WHEREAS, she joined Xscape in 1990 while attending Tri-Cities P erforming Arts High4 School; and 5 WHEREAS, Xscape was discovered by producer Jermaine Dupri while singing at his6 birthday celebration in Atlanta, Georgia, where Dupri immediately signed the group to his7 then-new record label, So So Def Recordings; and8 WHEREAS, Tameka Harris has contributed to three of Xscape's platinum albums: Hummin'9 Comin' at 'Cha, Off the Hook, and Traces of My Lipstick; and10 WHEREAS, she sang lead vocals on six of Xscape's hit singles: "Understanding", "Do You11 Want To?", "All I Need", "Love's a Funny Thing", "My Little Secret", and "Am I Dreamin'";12 and13 H. R. 1879 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1469 WHEREAS, Xscape members have received two Soul Train Music Awar ds for Best New14 R&B Artist and Best R&B Album as well as the A-Town Music Award for Best Duo/Group;15 and16 WHEREAS, Tameka Harris and fellow ex-Xscape group member Kandi Burruss, also17 received Grammy Awards for their writing contributions on the TLC hit "No Scrubs"; and18 WHEREAS, her other notable accomplishments include an American Society of Composers,19 Authors, and Publishers award in the R&B and Pop Music categori es for "No Scrubs", as20 well as the ASCAP Rap Award for her work on the Sporty Thievz track "No Pigeons"; and21 WHEREAS, she has recorded on soundtracks for films: The Baby-Sitters Club, Sunset Park,22 The Mask, Soul Food, Panther, Bad Boys, and Love Jones; and23 WHEREAS, in June 2009, Tameka Harris made her reality TV debut on BET's Tiny and24 Toya; and25 WHEREAS, from 2001 to 2017, Tameka Harris along with her husban d T.I. and their26 children, were featured in T.I. & Tiny The Family Hustle on VH!; and27 WHEREAS, on July 22, 2014, Tameka Harris returned to the music industry under her new28 label Pretty Hustle, with her first solo single "What The F*** You Gon Do?," that reached29 number one on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts within 24 hours of release.30 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that31 the members of this body recognize and commend Tameka Harris fo r her invaluable32 contributions to the communities she has served.33 H.
