26 LC 112 4039 House Resolution 1867 By: Representatives Beckles of the 96th, Adeyina of the 110th, Clark of the 108th, Dawson of the 65th, Okoye of the 102nd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc.; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, in 2000, the Institute of Caribbean Studies began leading the celebration of June3 as Caribbean American Heritage Month in Washington, D.C.; and4 WHEREAS, the Bill for National Caribbean American Heritage Mont h as introduced in5 Congress by Congresswoman Barbara Lee passed the House in June 2005 and the Senate in6 February 2006; and7 WHEREAS, the Proclamation recognizing June as National Caribbean American Heritage8 month was issued by George W. Bush on June 6, 2006; and9 WHEREAS, during Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we celebrate the great10 contributions of Caribbean Americans to the fabric of our nation and we pay tribute to the11 common culture and bonds of friendship that unite the United St ates and the Caribbean12 countries; and13 H. R. 1867 - 1 - 26 LC 112 4039 WHEREAS, since its incorporation, the Georgia Caribbean America n Heritage Coalition14 Inc., with the support of many Caribbean organizations, has hel d annual events to15 commemorate and celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month in Georgia; and16 WHEREAS, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc. works in close17 collaboration with many Caribbean American organizations and entities as represented in the18 diaspora here in the State of Georgia to showcase Caribbean his tory, culture and19 achievements; and20 WHEREAS, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc. contributes and21 supports the efforts of many Caribbean American organizations and events to strengthen the22 community here in the State of Georgia; and23 WHEREAS, the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc. , on this 20th24 anniversary of National Caribbean American Heritage Month, continues to build bridges and25 bring communities together in unity.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Caribbean American Heritage28 Coalition Inc. for its commitment, dedication, and efforts to promote unity and highlight the29 contributions that Caribbean Americans have made to communities in Georgia.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32 Georgia Caribbean American Heritage Coalition Inc.33 H.
